Caerllwyn Cottage

Picture of Caerllwyn

Caerllwyn (or Cae'r-llwyn) is a two hundred and fifty year old traditional Welsh drovers cottage on the edge of the 'waterfalls' area of the Brecon Beacons National Park and is close to all the major South Wales caving areas. The Gower Peninsular and Pen Y Fan are a short drive away.

Caerllwyn has been home to the WSG since 1968 where we first rented it before purchasing the property and surrounding land in 1993.

When not in use by the club, it is available for use by other caving / ourdoor clubs and other like minded people. It has sleeping accommodation for 18 people, additional camping space for 10 tents, full kitchen facilities (hobs, oven, fridges, tea urn all pots pans and utensils,) mains water and electricity, hot showers, drying room, proper toilets, a big garden with picnic tables and stone built barbecue. Most importantly, a real wood burning stove in the common room.

The Red Lion Inn is just up the hill and offers a wide selection of real ales. The New Inn in Rhigos serves good food in addition to liquid refreshment. Both are a 15 minute walk from the cottage.

All you need for a weekend there is a sleeping bag and food.

Members/students/reciprocal clubs pay cottage fees of £7.50 per night, non-members £10.00 per night. There is now a minimum fee of £40 per night between 1st Oct and 30th Apr (for cost of fuel) for visiting clubs. There is a special student rate of £7.50 per night for University Caving Clubs.
